Cardiac Measurement and Improvement in Psychological Functioning
NEFP is funding a research project to assess whether a correlation exists between cardiac measurement and improvement in psychological functioning.
The research is being conducted by Andrew Gerber, MD and Joel Bernanke, MD MSc at Silver Hill Hospital in Connecticut.
Project Title: Psychodynamic-specific changes, heart rate variability, and symptom reduction among complex adult patients in residential treatment.
Brief Summary: In the first study of its kind, we propose to examine the associations among changes in measures of psychodynamic insight and interpersonal distress, changes in heart rate variability during everyday functioning, and improvements in depression, anxiety, and personality disorder symptoms in a population of complex adults over the course of a residential treatment program.
